Program Director
About the Position:
This position is for a professional who is experienced in youth programming and outdoor education. The Program Director (PD) will be responsible for coordinating and managing On Belay programs, reporting directly to the Executive Director. This entails working with program locations, program coordinators, volunteers, participants, and participants’ families.
A successful candidate will be a team player and be flexible in wearing many hats for this small organization. It is critical that the person in this position be a relationship builder and able to make quick connections with children ages 8-18 as well as with their parents/guardians. Even more important is that the successful candidate will be able to help kids connect to each other and to their own inner resilience.
Primary Responsibilities & Tasks
Organize and plan 20+ adventure programs for youth, such as climbing, challenge courses, winter hiking, and backpacking
Required attendance of 8-10 programs per year– which includes: Family Day, all overnights (3), one fundraising program, and 4-6 additional programs
Manage groups of 8-30 youth (ages 8-18) while facilitating a program curriculum to achieve On Belay’s goals and mission
Develop and monitor the program budget
Provide monthly report on the status of programs, participant registration, parent communications, and budget to the board of directors
Maintain web-based program registration system and calendar for all youth programs
Regularly communicate via phone, email and email marketing, with participant families, collecting and documenting feedback
Reach out to new families to create a welcoming environment
Recruit, train, coordinate, and supervise Program Coordinators and volunteers
Develop and execute program agendas to achieve the goals of On Belay programs
Capture promotional photographs and participant feedback from events to execute and manage social media posts
Coordinate, manage contracts, and collaborate with various program sites and partners to ensure programs reflect the goals of On Belay programs
Collect, analyze, and maintain a database of program data through feedback, surveys, and interviews
Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Executive Director
Experience and Required Skills
Proven record of success working with children in an experiential education environment and trip leadership.
Experience facilitating and executing adventure programs
Proficiency in speaking to groups of all sizes and people of all ages
Exceptional organizational skills and ability to track multiple projects/tasks
Highly effective written and verbal communication skills
Comfortable with working in a self-directed role independently as well as collaborating with a small team and nonprofit board of directors
Ability to work in an outdoor setting year-round
Interest and ability to think strategically about On Belay’s programs and the potential for growth in its program offerings
Able to lift minimum of 40 pounds
Valid driver’s license, car insurance, and reliable vehicle
Wilderness First Aid or willingness to obtain certification
Additional Desirable Qualifications
BA/BS
Prior nonprofit experience
Outdoor leadership training
Knowledge of and experience with donor software, website design, email marketing, social media, and Google Suite
This is a part time - 32 hour flexible schedule position.
Hourly range of $25-$27/hr
