Josina Garnham

Chair of the Board

josinagarnhamJosina has been involved with On Belay since the first program – in the spring of 2004. She has been inspired by the courage of the young people who attend the program, the passion of her fellow board members and the commitment of the on Belay volunteer team. Currently Josina serves as chair of the On Belay board. Josina holds a BS in Outdoor Education from the University of New Hampshire and an MA in Leadership Development. Her educational background and interests have impacted the development of On Belay. When Josina is not enthusiastically working on the next On Belay adventure, she can be found at work at the Whittemore School of Business where she serves as the executive leadership development program coordinator, or she can be found out running on the roads and trails of seacoast New Hampshire.

Ruth Abelmann

Chair, Program Committee

RuthAbelmannI learned of On Belay from my good friend Crescentia who founded On Belay. Together we worked to involve UNH students in this great program hoping it would enhance the program. Since I work at UNH it was a great opportunity to help develop a partnership for students with the community. This partnership has been a success from the start. After Crescentia passed away I wanted to do my part to help sustain this program and even grow it so that it can be offered in other communities for young people. It has been a pleasure to stay involved in something that meant so much to Crescentia, and that provides needed outreach to kids who have a parent/guardian with cancer. I look forward to being a part of the future of On Belay.

Hello and welcome to the On Belay website! My name is Jen Ramsay, and I coordinate most of the On Belay marketing and promotions efforts. I became involved with On Belay in Fall 2004 when I was the Mills Hall Director at the University of New Hampshire. At that time, each Hall Director was responsible for finding a local community organization with whom they could partner – the idea was that the college students living in the residence hall would provide community service to the partner organization and learn about themselves in the process. Ruth Abelmann (On Belay Program Chair) was my supervisor at the time and knew Crescentia Healy-True (On Belay founder) and was looking to increase the energy, momentum, and organization behind it. Ruth connected me to Crescentia, and I was immediately hooked on this organization, on Crescentia’s vision for it, and, to be honest, on Crescentia as a person. She was this incredible, vibrant spirit with a zest for life that I had never encountered (and still have not encountered) in anyone else I’d ever met in person. Crescentia and I became good friends and she has had (and continues to have) a tremendous impact on my life. Continuing to grow On Belay is a passion for me – not only because I wish to be a part of carrying-on Crescentia’s vision – but also because I have found it to be a tremendous source of support and inspiration for me as I have been indirectly impacted by cancer as well.

David J. Coppola

Marketing and Promotions Committee Member

davidcoppolaI was born in Auburn, NY and currently live in Madbury, NH. I am married to a wonderful woman named Shawna and we have two beautiful daughters: Gianna (4 ˝ years old) and Sydney (2 years old). I work at Wentworth Douglass Hospital as a General Surgeon. I was Crescentia’s surgeon. I unfortunately was the one to diagnose her cancer and was involved with all her surgical treatment. I became very close to her and her family and have known about On Belay from the start. While I wasn’t part of the initially planning we often talked about it. I was at the first program and have always been excited about what On Belay has to offer. After Crescentia passed away, I was honored that I was contacted to help keep On Belay going strong and asked to become a member of the Board.

Sasha Johnson

Program Director

SashaJohnsonPicSasha Johnson comes to On-Belay with a passion for young people and the outdoors. After graduating from Maine College of Art she followed her interest in creative problem solving and community development to the non-profit sector. She focused her efforts on fundraising and organizational development for a growing non-profit in Portland, Maine. After five years of helping kids from Maine discover the magic of Casco Bay, Sasha realized it was time for a new challenge. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to put her skills to work for On-Belay and help the organization realize its full potential.

When she isn't dreaming of new ways to generate adventure opportunities for kids you can find her climbing exposed faces, searching for fresh powder, exploring the roads not traveled, cuddling with Guinness (her beloved Boston Terrier) and her fiancé Erik, making art, or indulging in a cup of dark roast and a great book.
